What is Divination?

Divination is a form of energetic communication — the ancient practice of seeking knowledge, guidance, messages and inspiration from spirit or higher consciousness.

What are the Different Types of Divination?

Cartomancy: Tarot and oracle readings guided by the intuitive interpretation of the reader.

Scrying: Gazing at the surface of a mirror, flame or open crystal ball to open up the third eye.

Bibliomancy: The method of employing sacred books (especially specific words and verses) for 'magical medicine', for removing negative entities, or for divination.

Palmistry: Practice of supposedly interpreting a person's character or predicting their future by examining the lines and other features of the hand, especially the palm and fingers.

Automatic Writing: Shutting off the conscious and allowing writing to be guided by subconscious thought.

Ceromancy: Divination by interpreting the significance of shapes formed when melted wax is dropped into water

Tasseomancy: Reading tea leaves by asking a question when drinking tea, then predicting the future based on where the leaves rest in the cup.

Norse Runes: Rune casting is simply an oracular divination method from Nordic and Germanic tribes in which runes are laid out, or cast, either in a specific pattern or randomly, as a form of guidance through problems or situations in which you need help making a decision.

Pendulum: An ancient dowsing tool made with a crystal on a chain or pendant on a necklace. It's a simple matter of yes/no questions being asked and answered.

Osteomancy: Bones are used to foretell the future utilizing the messages displayed in the bones.

Pyro-osteomancy: Oracle bones were used to practice of a form of divination, fortune-telling, known as pyro-osteomancy. Pyro-osteomancy is when seers tell the future based on the cracks in an animal bone or turtle shell either in their natural state or after having been burned. The cracks were then used to determine the future.

The Celtic Ogham: Named for Ogma or Ogmos, the Celtic god of eloquence and literacy, the Ogham alphabet has become known as a tool of divination for many Pagans and Wiccans who follow a Celtic based path.

Lithomancy: The practice of performing divination by reading stones, charms, or talismans of stone.

Arithmancy and Numerology: Arithmancy is the ‘correct’ term for divination using numerology. Numerology is when you assign special significance to numbers but arithmancy is when you add up numbers in a date, word etc. and interpret the number you get. Essentially, arithmancy is what you do when you put numerology to use.
